Will Japanese Maples survive in Parker County?

Japanese maples are marginally happy here. They are medium water plants. Japanese Maple varieties that survive here are limited here to the large leaf types (palmatum). They prefer dappled shade and no intense mid-day or hot afternoon sun is preferred. Bloodgood is one variety that has been known to do okay here. The frilly highly serrated type leaved varieties (dissectums) will dry out very fast with our hot dry winds – thus, are not recommended. The area needs to be extremely protected if you do TRY this type of maple.

Best of luck to you
